Musical Acts to Look Out for at the 2013 Thanksgiving Day Parade
The best of Broadway, marching bands, pop music favorites and more will take the stage in front of 3.5 million spectators in New York City and another 50 million across the country. If you can’t make it in person, tune in to NBC on Thanksgiving morning, from 9am to 12 noon EST, and don’t miss these talented musical acts.
This year the Broadway cast of Kinky Boots, a musical with a Tony-award winning score by pop legend Cyndi Lauper, will perform the musical’s finale, “Raise You Up” / “Just Be” during the parade.
Carrie Underwood
Tune in to the first hour of the broadcast to see a special performance by country music icon Carrie Underwood. The singer/songwriter will be performing in the 87th annual celebration along with the cast of NBC’s The Sound of Music Live! This performance will be just one week prior to the live premiere of The Sound of Music Live! on Dec. 5.
Cherokee National Youth Choir
Keep an eye out for the Cherokee National Youth Choir, an organization of youth of Cherokee descent that sings in the Cherokee language. This 28-strong choir, based in Oklahoma, will travel to New York City to perform during the parade — and the song choice will be a surprise for the crowds on Thanksgiving Day.
Matilda
Another excellent Broadway-style performance is anticipated from the cast of Matilda, the musical telling the story of Roald Dahl’s classic children’s book. Their Thanksgiving Day live performance will allow a wide audience to experience the powerful tale of one special girl who takes her fate into her own hands.
Andrea Bocelli
Many singers — Fantasia, Raven Symone — will be performing from floats during the Macy’s 2013 Thanksgiving Day Parade, but few will be as cherished as Andrea Bocelli, the Italian opera singer known for his pure voice and cross-genre appeal. In the past Bocelli has sung such seasonal classics as “White Christmas,” kicking off the holiday season on a memorable note.
